Cargill Turkey
Having started its operations in Turkey in 1960, Cargill contributes to the growth of the food, agriculture and industrial products sectors for 55 years with its Bursa, Orhangazi Corn Processing Facility investment and around 500 employees in Adana, Ankara, Balikesir, Bursa, Gebze and Istanbul. The company continues its growth both in Turkey as well as the Middle East and North Africa with its farmers whom it supports with purchase guarantee, customers to whom it offers superior products, ever-growing product portfolio and high-caliber staff that creates innovative ideas.

Production and Commerce
Cargill Gida Turkey offers special and analytical products as a supplier in a great many fields of the food industry in its Bursa-Orhangazi plant. Natural cornstarch is extracted through the use of high technology applied in the modern corn processing facilities of Cargill, and types of starch sugar including glucose and fructose syrups, particularly starch, are produced. Types of natural starch are used for various food applications, such as thickening, jelly manufacturing, water retention or viscosity adjustments, while glucose syrup is used in confectionary, biscuits, bakery products, processed ready-made food, jam, halva, ice-cream and various Turkish desserts. As for the fructose syrups, they are used in the beverage industry as a substitute for sugar.
Through Cargill Gida Turkey, Cargill is offering a variety of products to the Turkish food industry, such as cocoa powder, cocoa butter, cocoa liquor, chocolate modified starch, polyol, lecithin, pectin, carrageenan, alginate, xanthan gum, and hydrocolloids including LBG gels. In all of these markets, Cargill is the world leader in its own field.

Turkey is included in the list of countries that constitute the European Cereal & Oilseed Supply Chain, one of the most important business units of the Cargill Agricultural Supply Chain platform. Cargill Turkey, with an important role in Cargill’s global grain trade, is the largest purchaser of domestic corn among the industrial corporations in our country and trades soybean and its pulp, sunflower pulp, sunflower seed, wheat, barley, tallow, cotton and imported vegetable oils that are required in the feedstuff industry.

Cargill, who is also globally active in non-food industrial fields, has been meeting the basic raw material requirements of industries such as paper, textiles and packaging with its broad industrial product portfolio for many years. Today, in addition to the production of environmentally-friendly industrial products that address the rising demand for green raw materials, the company manufactures products derived from renewable resources as a substitute for various petroleum-based products. With its vast experience in industrial products market, Cargill has been rising in the Turkish market for about 1.5 years.

R&D and Quality
Cargill carries out its production activities within a closed system, without human contact and in line with the standards of the Turkish Food Codex and Food Security. Maintaining its operations in line with the ISO 22000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS quality standards, Cargill Gida Turkey facilities attach great importance to product hygiene both for food and feedstuff. The ongoing studies related to the functional products included under the category of healthy products such as Trehalose, Iso-maltulose, Actistar, Omega 3, Truvia and vegetable sterols, significantly contributes to the issue of a healthy diet, one of the increasingly popular issues of today.

Environment and Energy
As a consequence of its conservation activities, Cargill Turkey was granted the Environment Award by the Bursa Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (BUSİAD) in 2003.

The biogas formed in the Anaerobic Waste Water Purification Facilities within the Orhangazi Corn Processing Facilities is used for power generation through burning in the micro turbines which are designed with the support of TUBITAK.

Cargill Gida Turkey’s plant in Orhangazi was the winner of the Energy Efficient Industrial Facilities (EVET) category of the Competition for the Energy Efficiency Enhancement in Industry Projects (SEVAP 2008) organized by the Electrical Power Resources Survey and Development Administration under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The company has proved its respect for and contribution to the environment with its energy recycling project.

Furthermore, Cargill both renews the common rooms of the schools in Orhangazi and Gemlik, as well as in the surrounding area, and meets the technological and physical needs of these schools. Recently, Cargill has built the 112 Emergency Service Building in the Orhangazi Public Hospital, adding a new item to its contributions to the healthcare industry.
