Tourism Statistics of Turkey, I. Quarter: January-March, 2017

Tourism income decreased by 17.1%
In the first quarter which is January, February and March months of 2017 tourism income decreased by 17.1% and declined to $ 3 billion 369 million 753 thousand. While 71.8% of this income (excluding GSM roaming and marina service expenditures) was obtained from foreign visitors, 28.2% was obtained from citizens’ resident abroad.

Visitors organize their travel individually or with package tour. While individual expenditures constituted $ 3 billion 103 million 695 thousand of the total tourism income, $ 266 million 58 thousand of tourism income was obtained by package tour expenditures.

Average expenditure of the visitors was $ 696 per capita
In this quarter while average expenditure of the foreigners was $ 637 per capita, average expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident abroad was $ 880 per capita.

Number of departing visitors decreased by 5.1%
In this quarter number of departing visitors decreased by 5.1% compared to same quarter of previous year and declined to 4 million 844 thousand 761 persons. While 77.9% of visitors was foreign with 3 million 772 thousand 293 persons, 22.1% of them was Turkish citizens resident abroad with 1 million 72 thousand 468 persons.

Tourism expenditure decreased by 44.3%
Tourism expenditure which is the expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident in Turkey and visited abroad, decreased by 44.3% compared to same quarter of previous year and declined to $ 855 million 786  thousand. While $ 597 million 891 thousand of total expenditures was individual expenditures,
$ 257 million 894 thousand of tourism expenditures was package tour expenditures.

Number of Turkish citizens visited abroad increased by 4%
In this quarter number of Turkish citizens visited abroad increased by 4% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 1 million 897 thousand 554. Average expenditure was $ 451 per capita.
