Labour Input Indices, Quarter I: January-March, 2019
Employment index decreased by 8.6 %

Calendar adjusted employment index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors decreased by 8.6% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector decreased by 4.4%, construction sector decreased by 26.4% and trade-services sector decreased by 6.9%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted employment index decreased by 2.1% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector decreased by 1.6%, construction sector decreased by 10.0% and trade-services sector decreased by 0.7%.

Hours worked index decreased by 9.9%

Calendar adjusted hours worked index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors decreased by 9.9% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector decreased by 5.8%, construction sector decreased by 29.4% and trade-services sector decreased by 7.6%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hours worked index decreased by 2.2% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector decreased by 1.0%, construction sector decreased by 10.6% and trade-services sector decreased by 1.1%.

Gross wages-salaries index increased by 14.6%

Calendar adjusted gross wages-salaries index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors increased by 14.6% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 17.1%, construction sector decreased by 5.2% and trade-services sector increased by 16.3%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hours worked index increased by 6.0% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 5.9%, construction sector increased by 1.9% and trade-services sector increased by 6.7%.

Hourly labour cost index increased by 27.1%

Calendar adjusted hourly labour cost index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors increased by 27.1% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 24.3%, construction sector increased by 34.9% and trade-services sector increased by 25.5%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hourly labour cost index increased by 8.1% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 6.5%, construction sector increased by 13.4% and trade-services sector increased by 7.8%.

Hourly earnings index increased by 27.2%

Calendar adjusted hourly earnings index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors increased by 27.2% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 24.3%, construction sector increased by 34.3% and trade-services sector increased by 25.8%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hourly earnings index increased by 8.4% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 7.0%, construction sector increased by 14.0% and trade-services sector increased by 7.9%.

Hourly labour cost excluding earnings index increased by 26.5%

Calendar adjusted hourly labour cost excluding earnings index including industry, construction, trade and services sectors increased 26.5% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 24.6%, construction sector increased by 38.0% and trade-services sector increased by 24.1%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hourly labour cost excluding earnings index increased by 6.7% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 4.3%, construction sector increased by 10.3% and trade-services sector increased by 7.2%.

Calendar effect has not been observed in employment and gross wages-salaries index. Therefore. unadjusted series are used instead of calendar adjusted series.
