Labour Input Indices, Quarter III: July-September, 2019, in Turkey

Calendar adjusted employment index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors decreased by 3.9% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector decreased by 1.5%, construction sector decreased by 26.4% and trade-services sector increased by 0.2%.Seasonally and calendar adjusted employment index increased by 0.4% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 0.9%, construction sector decreased by 4.0% and trade-services sector increased by 0.8%.

Hours worked index decreased by 4.6%

Calendar adjusted hours worked index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors decreased by 4.6% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector decreased by 2.4%, construction sector decreased by 27.7% and trade-services sector increased by 0.1%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hours worked index increased by 1.4% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 1.5%, construction sector decreased by 3.3% and trade-services sector increased by 2.2%.

Gross wages-salaries index increased by 18.8%

Calendar adjusted gross wages-salaries index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors increased by 18.8% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 21.0%, construction sector decreased by 8.1% and trade-services sector increased by 22.1%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted gross wages-salaries index increased by 4.3% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 4.7%, construction sector decreased by 0.9% and trade-services sector increased by 4.8%.

Hourly labour cost index increased by 23.9%

Calendar adjusted hourly labour cost index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors increased by 23.9% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 22.7%, construction sector increased by 27.1% and trade-services sector increased by 21.7%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hourly labour cost index increased by 2.7% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 3.0%, construction sector increased by 2.4% and trade-services sector increased by 2.4%.

Hourly earnings index increased by 24.5%

Calendar adjusted hourly earnings index including industry, construction, trade-services sectors increased by 24.5% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 23.9%, construction sector increased by 27.2% and trade-services sector increased by 22.1%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hourly earnings index increased by 2.9% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 3.2%, construction sector increased by 2.5% and trade-services sector increased by 2.5%.

Hourly labour cost excluding earnings index increased by 20.2%

Calendar adjusted hourly labour cost excluding earnings index including industry, construction, trade and services sectors increased 20.2% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 16.4%, construction sector increased by 27.0% and trade-services sector increased by 19.9%.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted hourly labour cost excluding earnings index increased by 1.9% compared with the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined; industrial sector increased by 2.0%, construction sector increased by 2.4% and trade-services sector increased by 1.6%.

Calendar effect has not been observed in employment and gross wages-salaries index. Therefore, unadjusted series are used instead of calendar adjusted series.
