Turkey’s steel exports in 2016 increased by 2.4 percent in volume compared to the previous year.

Turkish steel industry also maintained its upward momentum in the first months of 2017. Turkey’s total exports in the first two months of 2017 amounted to 3.3 million tons, reaching a value of 2.1 billion US Dollars. The Middle East continued to be the largest export market for the steel industry with 5.3 million tons.

The countries where the steel industry experienced the highest increase in exports on yearly basis in terms of quantity were Yemen, Israel, Spain, Egypt and the Netherlands. In 2016, the most exported steel products were 7 million tons of construction steel, 2 million tons of flat hot, 1.8 million tons of welded pipes and 1.5 million tons of profiles.

Marketable production of solid fuels was 111 thousand 289 tons for hard coal, 4 million 482 thousand 194 tons for lignite and 348 thousand 748 tons for coke derived from hard coal in February 2017. For the same month, deliveries (1) were 3 million 43 thousand 23 tons for hard coal, 4 million 467 thousand 892 tons for lignite and 411 thousand 426 tons for coke derived from hard coal.

The lowest ratio of production to deliveries was in hard coal
The lowest ratio (2) of marketable production to deliveries was in hard coal by 3.7%. This ratio was 84.8% for coke derived from hard coal and 100.3% for lignite.

Hard coal and lignite were delivered mostly to the thermal power plants
Distribution of solid fuels according to breakdown of main delivery places was 51% to thermal power plants, 15.3% to coking plants, 4.6% to industry (except iron and steel industry) for hard coal whereas, 87.3% to thermal power plants for lignite and 98.5% to iron and steel industry for coke derived from hard coal.
