The number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 6.3% compared with the previous month

In May, the number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 6.3% compared with the previous month. Minibuses, buses, small trucks, motorcycles and tractors increased by 26.3%, 8%, 6.1%, 41.9% and 8.2% respectively. Cars, trucks and special purpose vehicles decreased by 9.3%, 24.2% and 5.2%.

The number of road motor vehicles registered decreased by 42.5% compared with the same month of the previous year  

In May, the number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 42.5% compared with the same month of the previous year. Cars, minibuses, buses, small trucks, trucks, motorcycles and tractors decreased by 51.3%, 66.8%, 38%, 55.9%, 68.8%, 4.4% and 45.5% respectively. Special purpose vehicles increased by 165.4%.

In the period of January-May, the total number of road motor vehicles in traffic increased by 173 630

While 97 thousand 668 road motor vehicles were withdrawn, 271 thousand 298 road motor vehicles were added in January-May period. Hence, the total number of road motor vehicles registered increased by 173 thousand 630.

721 196 road motor vehicles handed over in May

Among 721 thousand 196 vehicles handed over⁽¹⁾, cars accounted for 71.9% followed by small trucks 15.5%, motorcycles 5.7% and tractors 2.5%. Minibuses, buses, trucks and special purpose vehicles constituted 4.4% of the handed over motor vehicles in May.

The ratio of cars registered using LPG was 37.7%

At the end of May, among 12 million 482 thousand 475 registered cars, the share of LPG-fuelled cars was 37.7% followed by diesel-fuelled cars with 37.3% and gasoline-fuelled cars with 24.6%. The share of electric or hybrid cars is 0.1% and the cars with unknown⁽²⁾ fuel type was 0.3%.

In May, 27 136 cars were registered to the traffic

In terms of the distribution of trademarks for the 27 thousand 136 new registered cars in May, Fiat 13.9%, Renault recorded 13.2%, Toyota 9.9%, Volkswagen 7.9%, Hyundai 6.6%, Peugeot 6.6%, Honda 6.5%, Mercedes-Benz 4.5%, Dacia 3.8%, Opel 3.4% and the other trademarks 23.9% of the total.

Most frequent engine size was 1501-1600 for registered cars

Within 152 thousand 646 cars registered to traffic in January-May period, 38.1% of them had engine size 1501-1600, 27.3% had 1401-1500, 15.8% had 1301-1400, 11.7% had 1300 or less, 5.9% had 1601-2000, 1.2% had 2001 and above engine size.

Most frequent colour was white for registered cars

Within 152 thousand 646 cars registered to traffic in January-May period, 52.8% of them were white, 23.9% were grey, 7.2% were black, 5.6% were red and 10.5% were in other colours.

The number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 48.8% compared with the previous month

In February, the number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 48.8% compared with the previous month. Cars, minibuses, buses, small trucks and trucks decreased by 58.4%, 33.5%, 47.3%, 62.3% and 48.6% respectively. Motorcycles, special purpose vehicles and tractors increased by  30.1%, 97% and 5%.

The number of road motor vehicles registered decreased by 45.8% compared with the same month of the previous year  

In February, the number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 45.8% compared with the same month of the previous year. Cars, minibuses, buses, small trucks, trucks and tractors decreased by 49.8%, 29.3%, 45.2%, 57.3%, 64.9% and 64.8% respectively. Motorcycles and special purpose vehicles increased by 2% and 85.8%.

In the period of January-February, the total number of road motor vehicles in traffic increased by 74 715

While 25 thousand 796 road motor vehicles were withdrawn, 100 thousand 511 road motor vehicles were added in January-February period. Hence, the total number of road motor vehicles registered increased by 74 thousand 715.

535 037 road motor vehicles handed over in February

Among 535 thousand 37 vehicles handed over⁽¹⁾, cars accounted for 70.2% followed by small trucks 17.1%, motorcycles 3.9% and tractors 3.4%. Minibuses, buses, trucks and special purpose vehicles constituted 5.4% of the handed over motor vehicles in February.

The ratio of cars registered using LPG was 37.8%

At the end of February, among 12 million 445 thousand 592 registered cars, the share of LPG-fuelled cars was 37.8% followed by diesel-fuelled cars with 37% and gasoline-fuelled cars with 24.8%. The share of electric or hybrid cars is 0.05% and the cars with unknown⁽²⁾fuel type was 0.3%.

In February, 18 464 cars were registered to the traffic

In terms of the distribution of trademarks for the 18 thousand 464 new registered cars in February,  Renault recorded 15%, Fiat 14.9%, Volkswagen 11.6%, Hyundai 7.5%, Honda 6.4%, Toyota 5.3%, Peugeot 4.6%, Nissan 4.3%, Dacia 4%, Skoda 3.7% and the other trademarks 22.7% of the total.

In May, the number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 3.1% compared with the previous month. Cars, small trucks, and motorcycles increased by 1.1%, 20.2%, and 6.1% respectively. Minibusses, buses, trucks, special purpose vehicles, and tractors decreased by 10.6%, 24.6%, 5%, 30.2% and 12.7%.

The number of road motor vehicles registered decreased by 9.1% compared with the same month of the previous year  

In May, the number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 9.1% compared with the same month of the previous year. Cars, buses, small trucks, special purpose vehicles and tractors decreased by 13.2%, 38.4%, 12.1%, 73.1%, and 33% respectively. Minibuses, trucks and motorcycles increased by 24.8%, 16.9% and 16.2%.

In the period of January-May, the total number of road motor vehicles in traffic increased by 426 140

While 46 thousand 435 road motor vehicles were withdrawn, 472 thousand 575 road motor vehicles were added in January-May period. Hence, the total number of road motor vehicles registered increased by 426 thousand 140.

672 053 road motor vehicles handed over in May

Among 672 thousand 53 vehicles handed over⁽¹⁾, cars accounted for 70.3% followed by small trucks 16%, motorcycles 5.9% and tractors 2.9%. Minibusses, buses, trucks and special purpose vehicles constituted 4.9% of the handed over motor vehicles in May.

The ratio of cars registered using LPG was 38.1%

At the end of May, among the 12 million 303 thousand 46 registered cars, the share of LPG-fuelled cars was 38.1% followed by diesel-fuelled cars with 36% and gasoline-fuelled cars with 25.5%. The ratio of the cars with unknown⁽²⁾ fuel type was 0.4%.

In May, 55 727 cars were registered to the traffic

In terms of the distribution of trademarks for the 55 thousand 727 new registered cars in May, Renault recorded 16.7%, Volkswagen 11.3%, Fiat 8.5%, Dacia 6%, Hyundai 5.9%, Ford 5.3%, Toyota 5.2%, Honda 4.7%, Peugeot 4.4%, Mercedes-Benz 4.4% and the other trademarks 27.6% of the total.

In Turkey, 182 thousand 669 traffic accidents involving death or injury occurredIn the road network of Turkey, 1 million 202 thousand 716 traffic accidents occurred in total during year 2017. Among all those accidents 1 million 20 thousand 47 accidents were with material loss and 182 thousand 669 were with death or injury. For the accidents involving death or injury, 74.4% of them occurred at inhabited area and 25.6% occurred at uninhabited area.

7 thousand 427 persons were killed and 300 thousand 383 persons were injured

As a result of 182 thousand 669 accidents involving death or injury occurred in Turkey during year 2017, 3 thousand 534 people were killed at accident scene and 3 thousand 893 people who were injured at traffic accident and sent to health facilities died within 30 days after the accident due to related accident and its impacts. 48.6% of deaths and 66.8% of injuries occurred at inhabited area whereas 51.4% of deaths and 33.2% of injuries occurred at uninhabited area.

43.2% of the people killed in traffic accidents were drivers

Among the people killed in the accidents occurred in the road network of Turkey during year 2017, 43.2% of them were drivers, 34.2% were passengers and 22.6% were pedestrians. Concerning the gender breakdown of people killed 76% of them were men and 24% were women; whereas for the people injured 68.9% of them were men and 31.1% were women.

Driver faults were the primary fault causing traffic accidents with 89.9% share 

Looking at the 213 thousand 325 total faults causing accidents involving death or injury in Turkey during year 2017, it was observed that 89.9% of faults were driver faults, 8.5% were pedestrian faults, 0.7% were road faults, 0.5% were vehicle faults and 0.4% were passenger faults.

294 thousand 515 vehicles were involved in accidents with death or injury

In Turkey, the distribution of 294 thousand 515 road motor vehicles involved in accidents with death or injury was cars 52.7%, small trucks 15.7%, motorcycles 15.2%, minibuses 3.1%, trucks 2.9%, trailers 2.6%, buses 2.2%, tractors 1.1% and the other vehicles 4.5% during year 2017.

Accidents involving death or injury occurred most in July least in February

In Turkey by year 2017 looking at the monthly distribution of 182 thousand 669 accidents involving death or injury, accidents most frequently occurred in July with 11% share whereas accidents had least frequently occurred in February with 5.6% share. Regarding the distribution among the days of the week, accidents involving death or injury most frequently occurred on Saturdays with 15.1% share and least frequently on Tuesdays with 13.7% share.

67.4% of accidents involving death or injury occurred at daytime

Concerning the 182 thousand 669 accidents involving death or injury occurred in the road network of Turkey, 67.4% of accidents occurred at day, 30% occurred at night and 2.6% occurred at twilight.

EXPLANATIONS

Data of road traffic accidents are compiled from the administrative records of General Directorate of Public Security (GDPS) and General Command of Gendarmerie (GCG) and published annually by Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) according to Official Statistical Programme (OSP). The accidents with material loss which are documented by people involved in accidents are also included to total number of accidents.

Until year 2015 the number of persons killed in road traffic accident statistics included the deaths only at accident scene. As the work carried out to harmonise the statistics of persons killed at road traffic accidents with the international definitions has been completed in coordination with General Directorate of Public Security, General Command of Gendarmerie, Ministry of Health and Turkish Statistical Institute; statistics on the people who were injured at road traffic accidents and sent to health facilities who died within 30 days after the accident due to related accident and its impacts are included in the statistics and submitted to users since 2015.
