Due to slower price increases for capital goods (11.7 percent vs. 45.1 percent in December 2022) and energy-related items, it was the lowest produce inflation since June 2021. (11.8 percent vs 12.8 percent). Meanwhile, consumer goods’ prices rose quickly. (15.7 percent vs 14.8 percent). Producer prices increased by 12.9% when energy-related goods are excluded, slowing from a 13.4% increase in the previous month. Producer prices dropped 5.2 percent on a monthly basis, reversing a December rise of 2.1 percent.

Due to sharp price decreases in the provision of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning, the reading was the lowest since February 2022. (58.7 percent vs 68.6 percent). They increased less quickly for production (13.5 percent vs 15.2 in December). On the other hand, costs for water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation operations increased further (27.8 vs 23.2 percent) and for mining and quarrying (5 percent vs 4.7 percent). Producer prices rose by 0.8 percent on a monthly basis, exceeding the previous rise of 0.6 percent.

Producer prices of agricultural products were 29.7% higher in December 2022 than in the same month a year earlier. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the year-on-year increase continued to slow. The year-on-year rate of change had been +31.9% in November 2022 and +37.9% in October 2022. Compared with November 2022, prices fell by 0.4%. The prices of plant products rose by 13.4% on the same month a year earlier, which was a smaller increase than that of animal products prices (+42.3%). The rate of change had been +16.7% for plant products in November 2022 and +43.7% for animal products. Compared with the previous month, the prices of plant products fell by 2.3% in December 2022, while the prices of animal products rose by 0.9%.

The producer-price index decreased 0.1% (forecast was for no change) following a 0.3% advance the prior month.  From a year earlier, wholesale prices were up 2.3% (forecast was 2.4%).

This was the highest annual rate of change since December 2011 (+3.5%). In January 2017 the annual rate of change all over had been 2.4%. Compared with the preceding month January 2017 the overall index rose by 0.2% in February 2017 (0.7% in January 2017 and 0.4% in December 2016). The overall index disregarding energy rose by 2.2% compared with February 2016 and by 0.3% compared with January 2017. (20.03.2017)
