According to the news of Hürriyet Daily News, Antalya, one of Turkey’s top tourist hotspots, has welcomed a record 14 million foreign tourists this year, data from the provincial directorate of culture and tourism showed.

Foreign visits to the city, which hosted a total of 13.6 million international holidaymakers in 2018, stood at a little more than 14 million between January and Oct. 15. In the same period of last year, the corresponding figure was 12 million tourists.

The city, which welcomed tourists from 193 countries, targets to attract as much as 16 million visitors this year.

Russians top the list of foreign tourists with 5.2 million, marking a 15 percent rise on an annual basis, followed by Germans nationals with 2.5 million and Ukrainians with 776,000.

The number of German tourists increased by 16 percent in January and Oct.15 from a year earlier.

Moreover, a total of 656,000 Britons visited the city over the said period.

Data also showed that 516,000 Polish and 397,000 Dutch tourists spent their holidays in Antalya.

Meanwhile, for the first time in history, tourists in Turkey’s megacity Istanbul are expected to exceed the city’s own residents in number, the city’s chamber of commerce president has said.

During a press meeting in Cannes, France on Oct. 18, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) President Şekib Avdagiç said Istanbul was expected to receive 15.5 million tourists by the end of 2019.

Avdagiç’s remarks came during a press meeting of MIPCOM 2019 – a prestigious film, content, TV and production industry exhibition – where he said hotel occupancy rate in Istanbul was around 87 percent.

Strong demand from tourists in Istanbul also pushed hotel prices up 27 percent on foreign currency basis, Avdagiç added.

According to Labor Law article no.63, before weekends employee needs to work full on workdays to have holiday.

For instance; If there is 45 hours of working plan in six days in your work place, you need to work full to have weekend holiday.

Weekend holiday’s duration is 24 hours and must be used uninterrupted.

Annually, domestic trips decreased by 3.9% compared to the previous year and declined to 68 million 450 thousand.

Domestic visitors spent 371 TL on average
In this quarter, domestic visitors made 74 million 786 thousand overnights. While average number of overnights was 7, average expenditure per trip was 371 TL.

In this year, total number of overnights increased by 2.9% compared to the previous year and reached to 605 million 608 thousand. While average number of overnights was 8.8, average expenditure per trip was 410 TL in 2016.

Domestic visitors spent 3 billion 968 million 113 thousand TL
In this quarter, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 1.5% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 3 billion 968 million 113 thousand TL.

In this year, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 14.8% compared to the previous year and reached to 28 billion 33 million 83 thousand TL.

Domestic tourism expenditures were composed of individual expenditures and package tour expenditures. In this quarter, while 95.9% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 3 billion 807 million 2 thousand TL, 4.1% of it was package tour expenditures with 161 million 111 thousand TL.

Annually, while 91.1% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 25 billion 542 million 766 thousand TL, 8.9% of it was package tour expenditures with 2 billion 490 million 316 thousand TL.

Primary purpose of trip was “visiting relatives” with 72.2%
The secondary purpose of trip was “health” with 9.1% and the third was “travel, leisure, holiday” with 8.1%.

Annually, while “visiting relatives” was the primary purpose of trip with 65.9%, secondary purpose of trip was “travel, leisure, holiday” with 21.5% and the third was “health” with 6.3%.

Domestic visitors stayed mostly at house of friend and relative
In this quarter, according to number of overnights by type of accommodation, domestic visitors stayed mostly at “house of friend and relative” with 50 million 491 thousand overnights. While “own house” took second place with 12 million 837 thousand overnights, “hotel” took third place with 3 million 501 thousand overnights.

Annually, domestic visitors stayed mostly at “house of friend and relative” with 413 million 925 thousand overnights. “Own house” took second place with 107 million 831 thousand overnights and “hotel” took third place with 40 million 910 thousand overnights.
