In Turkey, the opera and ballet shows affiliated to General Directorate of Opera and Ballet were performed in 6 provinces in 2017. On the other hand, there were 6 orchestras, 13 choirs and 9 groups affiliated to the General Directorate of Fine Arts in 2017.

Number of opera and ballet audiences increased by 3.1%

The number of opera and ballet audiences was 281 thousand 69 in the 2016-2017 season, with an increase by 3.1% compared to the 2015-2016 season. The number of shows performed in opera and ballet halls increased by 16.5% to 198 in the 2016-2017 season compared to 2015-2016 season.

During the 2016-2017 season, the number of performances in opera and ballet halls was 678 with a decrease by 1% compared to the 2015-2016 season.

Number of audiences in orchestra, choir and groups decreased by 11.3%

The number of audiences in orchestra, choir and groups was 411 thousand 60 in the 2016-2017 season, with a decrease of 11.3% compared to 2015-2016 season. The number of orchestra audiences decreased by 11.3% to 137 thousand 367 compared to last season, while the number of chorus audiences decreased by 15.8% to 61 thousand 837 and the number of groups’ audiences decreased by 9.5% to 211 thousand 956.

Number of orchestra performances decreased by 8.9%

The number of shows performed by orchestras decreased by 8.9% in the 2016-2017 season compared to the 2015-2016 season and became 195.

Number of orchestra audiences increased by 21.1% in Antalya

The number of orchestra audiences increased by 21.1% in Antalya during the 2016-2017 season, while it decreased by 47.6% in İzmir.

Number of choir performances increased by 5.9%

During the 2016-2017 season, the number of choir performances was 179 with a decrease by 5.9% compared to 2015-2016 season.

Choir audiences increased 747.6% in Diyarbakır and decreased 52.7% in Bursa

The number of chorus audiences increased by 747.6% in Diyarbakır, 50% in Sivas and 45.8% in İzmir among the 10 provinces where choir performances were made in 2016-2017 season. Bursa with 52.7%, Samsun with 45% and Şanlıurfa with 38.1% were the provinces with the greatest decrease in number of audiences in the same period.

Number of shows performed by groups increased by 41.2%

The number of shows performed by groups was 192 in the 2016-2017 season with an increase of 41.2% compared to the 2015-2016 season.

Number of groups’ audiences increased by 110.6% in İstanbul

The number of groups’ audiences was decreased in all 5 provinces where the group shows were performed in the 2016-2017 except İstanbul where there was an 110.6% increase. The number of audiences was decreased by 39.7% in Edirne, 16.1% in Ankara, 18.9% in Konya and 54.8% in İzmir.

Rate of the female performers was 44.7% in operas and ballets

The number of performer staff performing at the opera and ballets during the 2016-2017 season increased by 2.2% compared to the 2015-2016 season. In 2016-2017 season, 2 thousand 498 performers including guest performers served in opera and ballets affiliated to the General Directorate of Opera and Ballet.  The 44.7% of this number was female performers.

In orchestras, choirs and groups, 1 448 performer staff served

In the orchestras, choirs and groups affiliated to the General Directorate of Fine Arts, a total of 1 448 performer staff took part in the 2016-2017 season. The 375 of this staff were in orchestras, 667 were in choirs and 406 were in groups. The 41.1% of the performers serving in orchestras, 39.1% of the performers serving in choirs and 28.6% of the performers working in groups were female.
